Style How-To: Mixing Prints

Friday, June 20, 2014

Mixing printed fabric doesn't have to be thought of as mixing oil and water. Style is a reflection of self so show off your creative and sharp mind by mastering the art of mixing prints. This post serves as an inspiration for you to be brave and creative. I put together some outfits with rich colors and eye catching prints that I think you will like!

See my wedges? I love mixing in straw and cream shoes or bags to help ground your fun prints. It's cuter than just a basic leather shoe and has character!

Try: A suave hat or woven clutch

What's your favorite way to mix prints? Comment below and I hope you liked this post! I am really getting in to the graphic design so that I can convey my content in the prettiest way to you.
Keep inspiring each other! :)

Get What You Want- Stay on Track

Monday, May 26, 2014

You and I are both alike in that we have overwhelming goals. I started summer class last week (yuck) and my campus is deserted- all of my friends left for the year. I was feeling like a lost cause and not knowing what to do. I am the type of person who always has to be working towards things- I don't even watch T.V ( i feel guilty just sitting).

Sometimes you get out of funk and lose momentum. It's normal- but instead of letting it pass, I want to make sure I am keeping my finger on the pulse of what I am going after and being proactive.

If you really want to go after your dreams you have to put yourself in the best position. I think of an airplane getting ready for take-off. There is maintenance to be done to the plane before it can fly and you have to get rid of any dangers that could cause it to crash.

Your distractions and bad habits will hinder you from getting to where you want to be. You also have to be an advocate for yourself and aggressive. Whenever I think I am working hard, something comes along and reminds me I can be working even harder.

(Sorry, tough love works with me)

Ask yourself....

1. What's distracting you? Or WHO is distracting you? Is it good for you or does it make you feel worse?

(Okay, so this is silly but I felt like the past week I was getting distracted with boys. I kept texting, taking pictures, and wanting to cuddle (grossssss) and then this morning I was like "EMMY- you gotta stop-this isn't you and you're just bored." ) I also promised myself I would remain single until I felt I had accomplished more.

(^^See, like what a waste of time)

2. Are you keeping a routine?

Even if there is no point- successful people develop a disciplined routine. I like to wake up early and workout, clean, and plan my day. This confidence and self discipline will help you remain on track with your goals.

3. What do you want?

One of my favorite phrases is "be intentional" meaning to do everything with purpose that comes from within. Basically, do all things with passion.

I think getting off track of your goals can be a good thing- it snaps you out of bad habits and distractions and allows you to evaluate yourself and your plan even more.

My parents always tell me I am the most determined person they know-and it's definitely one of my favorite qualities. But being driven doesn't last unless you motivate yourself daily (it's like showering- you have to keep doing it to stay refreshed!).

Go after your dreams loves

Nautical by Nature

Friday, May 9, 2014

I am a sucker for stripes, and anything nautical. Wearing nautical elements will always be "in" but these  boyfriend jeans help keep the outfit looking too costume-y.

Hair and makeup is always one of the most fun parts of a look. I love flipping my hair over to the side to create a messy but sexy look. Try Oribe Hair pumping mousse if you need help creating body... us bombshells say "the more body the better!" (Also Kim Kardashian raves about the stuff, so I had to buy it!)

t-strap leather sandal creates a long line in your silhouette- which will make any look fluid from head to toe.

:: Shop the look ::
A striped shirt (red is my favorite stripe color for brunettes) and a pair of boyfriend jeans is a fashion forward outfit without trying to hard. Relax and enjoy the compliments you will get.

QUESTION: How do you keep nautical stripes from looking too costumey? Will you take your boyfriend jeans with you into the summer months?

My favorite thing to wear this time of year is a romantic maxi dress ($24.80) and this Forever 21 dress is a bargain and amazing fit!

Want more floral maxi dress options? DUH You do! You can never have enough. Here are some of my favorite pretty prints right now:

Flowy Chiffon Maxi Dress ($100) from Urban Outfitters is the perfect spring blush tone.

A classic black shoulder bag ($21.80) from Forever 21 is a key piece that you will be thankful you bought. I couldn't believe I didn't have any black purses so I had to bite the bullet.

Like this look? Hype it on Lookbook!
And like it on Chictopia!

I went for a walk downtown with my friends and got a photo op in this horse carriage. Hype and Follow me on LookBook.

This look is simple, comfortable and classy. You can take it easily from day to night. A black maxi dress is a staple for me. I sometimes add a beautiful belt ($48)...Take your pick here!

My dress was from Nordstrom's Rack awhile back. Similar look can be achieved:
Topshop Maxi Dress $36 (cheap!) or try this for a more tailored look $78. I will include a bunch of different style maxi dresses that I think are affordable, fashionable, and work for a woman's body.

Another stunning color is this grey opal draped leather jacket ($298). As a side note Trouve is one of the most exquisite labels to turn to for stunning garment shapes.

I wore black tights ($28) with my dress.

Boys and Bombshells is searing for a photographer

Wednesday, March 19, 2014

The hardest part about running this blog is keeping the photos coming! I am in Chicago and looking for a full time photographer(s). I am always ready to shoot but I really prefer to shoot outdoors in natural light. I want to capture the clothing in the best light and environment possible to help tell the whole story.

I am searching for anyone who is familiar with street style/editorial/fashion photography.
Also if you are a fashion blogger in Chicago feel free to contact as well.

This will eventually be a paid position.

I like to edit my own photos too so really you just would be snapping the photos! Pretty easy.

If you are interested in collaborating contact: Theemmyelliott@gmail.com

Thanks loves! Xoxo Emmy

All White Everything

Are you an "Audrey" or a "Marilyn"? Ah yes, one of the great questions of life. But now we must ask ourselves ladies, are we an "Olivia" or a "Kim"? I think I can be both...some days I want to be lady-like and others I just want to feel sexy. How about you?

Icons will be icons and imitation is the best form of flattery so get their bombshell looks below!

Olivia Palermo always looks on point. I love to look at her outfits for inspiration. I think she is sort of like a modern day Audrey Hepburn, what do you think?

DISECTING HER LOOK:

Quick Buys: I personally love J Crew Rose Gold Aviators  ($160.00) just a tad bit more than her aqua pair.
* I never leave my apartment without a pair of sunnies-not only do they protect your eyes against UV rays, they also help prevent wrinkles from squinting! Just some food for thought.

If you aren't a fan of polka dots, I found this nautical option ($58.00) from Nasty Gal. Or if you want to splurge a little get the original from Rag & Bone ($395.00)
*This is a key piece for spring 2014 ladies!

I would have loved to see her add in a bold and fun leopard clutch ($210).

Tuck your polka dot blouse into a flirty Valentino flare skirt ($450). This skirt is too perfect to not share with you. Ah can you imagine walking around downtown in the city in your flare skirt and heels?! Helllloo Carrie Bradshaw!

Olivia's Look:

I actually loved this look from Kim Kardashian- I know it got mixed reviews. I think the black undergarments is lady-like and flattering. Obviously she is our Marilyn Monroe! I love how she rocks her curves.

LACE IT UP:

This angelic Cream crochet tunic  ($75.00) from Goodnight Macaroon.
One of my must-haves for spring is this gorgeous lace Maxi skirt ($64.00) because it is cheap (yay!) and you can get a lot of miles out of it.

Quick Makeup Buys: Bareminerals eye brightener ($22.00)

Get Kim's Look:

Show me how you wear it! Anything you purchased from this post- can be as many items as you want. Tweet your selfie to @EmmyCorinne with #Boysandbombshells tag!
Or send in by email to TheEmmyElliott@gmail.com.

I had a lot of fun writing this post so I hope you enjoyed it!

Genevieve

Wednesday, March 5, 2014

Every girl should have a chic French alter-ego, and Genevieve is mine. A floral blouse is feminine and makes me feel put-together. Also a fun color palette like this one adds brightness to your outfit. I wear floral all year long-life's too short to be gloomy!

It's not too early to invest in a pair of white denim skinny jeans. Another white denim option here

Genevieve would never leave the house without a stunning cuff. This stone is natural and lady-like. She's a mysterious one, and hides her batty eyelashes behind a pair of cat eye sunglasses

She's always on the go so she opts for a pair of comfy but stylish heels!  The two-toned looks very Parisian this time of year. A versatile alternative are these black Vince heels which are timeless.

Another pair of sunnies (and quite cheap!) Genevieve is a poet of course so she needs beautiful Kate Spade notebooks to keep her inspired. She stores them insider her French Bulldog tote (awww!)

New hair color! Do you like it?! I am so happy I am lightening up. The floral top really makes my makeup instantly seem prettier.

But here's what I used:
1. I wash my face in the morning with Soy face cleanser which I have recommended to all of my friends. They LOVE it too.

2. After gently washing I apply Vitamin C truth serum which gives me a healthy glow. There is a smaller size available if you want to try it, but I honestly aware by this! You will notice the glow.

3. I moisturize with Aveeno  because it has SPF or Ole Henriksen smoothing moisturizer. I buy that little box and use the Vitamin C serum and night cream as well.

4. Lastly I finish off the skin with Olay eye serum. Eye cream is a MUST.

What would Genevieve wear? Shop the look:

Well, I sure had fun pretending to be French Genevieve. I'm off to my next adventure for the night. Take care loves.
